Kuwa (to be) and Kuwa Na (to have)

PRESENT AFFIRMATIVE

Wewe ni

For inanimate nouns, simply use "ni" in the same fashion.



PRESENT NEGATIVE



Mimi si
Wewe si
Yeye si

For inanimate nouns, simply use "si" in the same fashion.



PAST AFFIRMATIVE



Mimi nilikuwa

Wewe ulikuwa
Yeye alikuwa

For inanimate nouns, use the appropriate subject prefix, followed by -likuwa.​



​PAST NEGATIVE


​Mimi sikuwa
​Wewe hukuwa
Yeye hakuwa

Note that we are still dropping the "ku" (because kuwa is a monosyllabic verb). The "ku" in the negation comes from changing li to ku.



For inanimate nouns, use "ha" followed by the appropriate subject prefix, followed by -kuwa.​





PRESENT PERFECT AFFIRMATIVE


​Mimi nimekuwa
​Wewe umekuwa
Yeye amekuwa

For inanimate nouns, use the appropriate subject prefix, followed by -mekuwa.​



​PRESENT PERFECT NEGATIVE


​Mimi sijawa
​Wewe hujawa
Yeye hajawa

Note that we are dropping the "ku" because kuwa is a monosyllabic verb. 

For inanimate nouns, use "ha" followed by the appropriate subject prefix, followed by -jawa.​



FUTURE AFFIRMATIVE


​Mimi nitakuwa
​Wewe utakuwa
Yeye atakuwa

For inanimate nouns, use the appropriate subject prefix, followed by -takuwa.​

FUTURE NEGATIVE

​Mimi sitakuwa
​Wewe hutakuwa
Yeye hatakuwa

Note that we do not drop the "ku" of monosyllabic verbs when negating in the future tense.

For inanimate nouns, use "ha" followed by the appropriate subject prefix, followed by -takuwa.​
